Persepolis

Persepolis is an autobiographical animated feature of Marjani Satrapi who grew up in Iran witnessing historical events. Her country was first under Shah and then controlled by repressive Islamic fundamentalists. Marjani, an outspoken, confident and drawn to Western culture finds it hard to identify herself with her nation, she even refuses to stay out of trouble so she's sent to Europe by her parents so she's able to openly express her ideas and be lead a full life. Changes aren't easy for her, she struggles to fit in. Marjani finds her new friends superficial, taking their freedom and careless life for granted.

This is basically a story of a woman who tries to find herself and the society where she belongs. We all know how hard it can be to fit in and find what you truly want but it gets even harder when you're torn between your roots and rebellious nature.

I loved the visual style of the movie, it is simple and quite minimalistic but expresses so much.

Our Favorite Movies Set In Paris

Paris is our dream city. We admire its beauty and unique romantic atmosphere, beautifully dressed people, amazing views, gorgeous architecture, delicious pastries... Literally everything! Today we're going to share some of our most favorite movies which were set in our favorite city.

1. The Dreamers  

One of our favorite movies by Bernardo Bertolucci. We have a separate post on this movie, just click the title above and see it. 

2. Before Sunset

We aren't big fans of romantic movies but this one is special. The dialogues between these two characters are amazing. 

3. Dans Paris

Film by Christopher Honore with Louis Garrel and Romain Duris. Enough said. 

4. Midnight In Paris

What can be better than walking in the streets of Paris? Being transported back to the Pairs of 1920's and meeting your idols!

Naive and innocent Amelie seeking for love and happiness in the streets of Paris. 

5. Three Colors : Blue

Part of  Krzysztof Kieslowski's famous trilogy starring Juliette Binoche. 

Band Crush: She & Him

Everything involving Zooey Deschanel is super awesome. It's a fact.

I discovered She & Him about two years ago and haven't stopped listening to their music since then. For anyone who hasn't heard, She & Him is an indie duo with Zooey (vocals, piano, ukulele) and Matt Ward (production, guitar). They've released three albums so far Volume I (2008), Volume II (2010) and A Very She and Him Christmas (2011).
Zooey has been making music for a long time but never thought of pursuing music career until she met Matt Ward. She had bunch of home demos but never had an ambition to become a music celebrity. One day she sent her demos to Ward who later persuaded her into recording her songs properly. That's how their band was formed.
Listening to She & Him brings happy, sunny mood and makes your life better in general.
